Should I use Automatix…

I’ve just recently purchased a new laptop. I’ve installed Ubuntu and now I’m getting around to installing/tweaking the OS. Adding the missing multimedia “stuff”, installing Flash, Java, etc. My question is what do people think about Automatix? The guys behind UbuntuGuide don’t recommend using it, but I’ve seen a dozen or more sites that say [...]

Must have/read Java books…

I was tasked with providing my favorite bookstore’s owner with a list of Java-related books he should always have in stock. The list I’m giving him is of books I put in the “must have” and/or “must read” category. My list is shorter then I thought it would be. Effective Java – I put this [...]

JBoss ON the Road

It was well organizied, the presentations were better then good, and no time was wasted (we installed JBoss ON during lunch). The schedule looked like it was geared to Application Server admins, but the [...]

vim brooken in Ubuntu Edgy…

UPDATE: My solution was simple. erik@lappy $> sudo apt-get remove vim-tiny erik@lappy $> sudo apt-get install vim Jeez! To save a few KBs on their install CD the Ubuntu people broke vim in Ubuntu Edgy. Even worse, all I’ve found as solutions to the problem, is people telling me to run: apt-get install vim-full That [...]

Daily Best Read – 01/23/07 (Learn Ruby)

I found a gem yesterday via java.blogs that is a cross between how to start learning Ruby and how Ruby and Java differ in their Class/Object/method creation.  Anyhow, read “Ruby Class Tutorial” if you have any interest in learning Ruby. I’ve added Juixe TechKnow to my blogroll and will be anxious to read his furture [...]
