Last night was the first J2EE Hands-On SIG meeting of the year. It was the first meeting in our 10-month series working through Sang Shin’s J2EE with Passion course. And the biggest first, it was my first time doing a presentation for any of the Dallas-based Java user groups.
The meeting went pretty good. I demonstrated how to install the Sun Java System Application Server Platform Edition 8, how to confirm that you had a successful install, how to start and stop the server from both the cmd-line and the Start menu (for Windows users), how to deploy a simple web-app using the autodeploy feature, how to use the admin console, and lastly we looked at the log viewer.
There were some good questions. I was able to answer most, and I did get a couple that I’m gonna have to do a little research on.
If you are in Dallas and want to learn J2EE come on out to our meetings. The 3rd Wednesday of each month will be a lecture, and that will be followed on the 3rd Thursday with a hands-on lab where we work through some homework on the previous night’s topic. February’s topics can be found here on Sang Shin’s site.
