The Struggle Continues…

I struggle with the question, “Should I use Firefox or should I use Safari?” often.

This morning I had 3 different instances of Firefox open, each with between 5 – 10 open tabs of stuff I was looking at/ researching/ working on. I work like this all the time. I normally have an instance of Firefox up for work, one for stuff like web-based email, stock tracking, and various news sites, and then at least one instance for general “work/research” stuff. The third instance is the one that normally has new sites I’ve just found and they’re normally not bookmarked yet.

Well, back to the struggle. This morning as I’m in the process of writing a new post here, in MT, and in the process of finding the best deal on a 4th Gen 40 GB iPod Firefox gets “hung”. It makes me crazy. For the most part I didn’t have anything else open that could have caused a problem. I was running a few Terms, and iTunes and that was about it. All my research, a new blog post, and a few new sites….. GONE!

I’d really like to see something implemented into Firefox that saves all open pages into a temporary group on exit. Maybe even something that saves all open pages into a temp group every 5, 10, 15 (or some configurable number) minutes. Because with having to “Force Quit” Firefox about once a month I’m sure that anything programmed to be executed on Exit would be bypassed.

ARGH!!! I guess I’ll run with Safari for a few weeks. I really just wish that Firefox worked as well on OS X as it did on Windows.

Strange… I’ve never had a problem with Firefox. I try to load up one instance with a bunch of tabs, but usually end up with three or four windows open at any time. Have you gone to version 1.0.1 yet?

First, don’t get me wrong. I LOVE Firefox. That said, I have problems with in on OS X as well as on my Win XP machines. I’ll post something here next week describing my issues on the Windows platform. And, NO, I have not installed 1.0.1 on either OS.
