It seems everywhere I go (I’m talking Java blogs) I see a post either for, against, or indifferent on the subject of Ruby and Ruby on Rails. I have pretty much just done the “drive-by” every time I see a post on the subject. Not really being interested in picking up Ruby and it’s web-framework, Rails, I blow right by.
Well, I might now have some interest in learning Ruby. Mike Clark appears to be starting a “Learning Ruby” series on his blog. The first installment is great. Mike doesn’t shove the info down your throat. He makes you want to shovel it in yourself. If you have an interest in Ruby, or you don’t know what Ruby is go read Mike’s post.
Anyhow, I think I’ll work through Mike’s first installment and give him a couple of weeks to deliver another installment and then make a concrete decision on if I really want to “dig in” and learn Ruby. Obviously if I make the decision to learn Ruby I’m sure it won’t be long before I’m playing with Rails.

I’m with you on passing over Ruby articles, but since you gave Mike’s a try I figured I’d do the same. It was a good article. I think I like his approach for learning Ruby more than I like Ruby, but still worth a read.
Yeah, I’m gonna watch for the next tutorial. If he delivers I think I might get suckered into learning Ruby. Otherwise, it might be a while before I jump on the Ruby train.
Cool! I’ve wondered about this.
