Holy Cow…. Opening Day…

Yes! Yes! Yes! It’s MLB Opening Day! Easily, one of my favorite days of the year. On Opening Day the Chicago Cubs are both undefeated and in first place. Yes, there are 162 games to be played, but I love being able to say that my Cubbies are in 1st. Until the last couple of years Opening Day was about the only day of the year I could say it…..

So the Cubs open their season in Arizona playing the Diamondbacks. The opener featured one of the strangest things I’ve ever seen. The Diamondbacks let the Cubs most recent Hall of Famer (just elected this off season) Ryne Sandberg throw out the first pitch.

I really don’t get it. As far as I know Ryno has no ties to Arizona. For now I’ll file it in my great, big Hmm… folder. The cool thing about it was that Ryno didn’t throw the pitch to a catcher at Home Plate. He tossed it to Mark Grace at First Base. How cool! But so damn strange. The move featured my two favorite Cubs from 1983 – 2002. One other thing, take a look at this great picture of Ryno and Gracie. Notice the Cubs “Believe” bracelet that Ryno is wearing… Yup, I’m still wearing mine….

Best of all, the Cubs smoked the D-backs, 16-6. Day one down. The Cubs are still undefeated and still sitting atop the NL Central!

Man am I out of the loop. After reading your post I was like, “the season started?” So on the way to the store I left the mp3 player home and put on the local AM sports show. I’ll be, the Sox have already played 2 games.

Oh and from what I hear, your cubs are killing the Sox; who started 0-2. Best of seasons to you.
