Are you tired of Firefox crashing? I am. It crashes weekly for me. It makes me crazy. I’m “hard” on my browser. I keep a couple windows open with about 15-20 tabs per window. On startup, in this configuration, I’m using about 135 MB or RAM. Within a couple of days I’ll be sitting at about 350 MB of RAM! Damn! Can you say memory HOG?
Anyhow, I came across a post yesterday about keeping Firefox’s memory use in check (Prevent Firefox from Bleeding Memory). Not sure if it was legit I checked the Firefox about:config FAQ and sure enough if you search down for ” browser. cache. memory. enable” you will see that setting this to false should halt my memory growth problem.
I’m gonna run like this for a few days and see what happens. If I don’t see the memory growth, and I don’t see any “slowness” I’ll be thrilled. Give me a week and I’ll report back.
argh. i’m so mad at firefox that i actually switched to Opera two days ago. i miss a few of the firefox plugins, but no crashes…
i am out on Opera. i repeatedly read about how it is non-compliant on how it renders some CSS stuff. that makes it no better then IE.
Firefox or Lynx!

Intersting. For me firefox only crashes when it gets messed up with sites that muck about with flash and java and other such bandwidth hogging things.
I tried Opera and liked it but there are a few plugins that Firefox has that I cannot live without. As always, use what works best (UWWB). 😉
In my experience Firefox crashes are typically caused by an installed extension.
1.5.0.1 was just released:
Firefox 1.5.0.1 is a stability and security update that is part of our ongoing program to provide a safe Internet experience for our customers. We recommend that all users upgrade to this latest version.
I haven’t upgraded to 1.5 yet, but FireFox is rock stable for me…. I’m still on 1.0.7, but I’ll upgrade when the next release of Ubuntu comes out…
Take care,
