Our current camera has past its life expectancy and I need to replace it. I’m pretty sure I’m getting a Canon PowerShot SD600. Does anyone have one? Do you like it? Do you dislike it? Should I be looking at something else? The key is I want one of the ultra-compact cameras and I need it to be fast as hell. I’ve had two Nikon Coolpix cameras that have worked well, but I think I’m passing on Nikon this time around.
We bought the Panasonic DMC-TZ1S with 10x Optical Zoom plus 4x Digital Zoom, 5.0 Megapixel. It has ALOT of very cool features. Before that I had the Sony Cybershot with 7 MegaPixels, 3x Optical Zoom.
I found that it was extremely rare for me to utilize the 7 megapixels and that for the most part anything over 3.2 was just overkill, even for amateur photography. However, the optical zoom I found to be my key concern before long. It just did not cut it with the Sony.
The 10x Optical on the Panasonic is awesome, and given that I thought 5.0 megapixels would be plenty for even my most extreme usage of the camera the tradeoff made sense.
Just thought I’d mention this in case you wanted to compare optical zoom capabilities with some cameras before you buy.
