Wilco was Great!!!

Friday night I went to the Wilco show in Dallas, and they were GREAT! I’ve seen them a number of times live and this was one of the best shows I’ve seen. They played a great selection of songs, stuff from all their albums. They even dusted off a great, rare one from their first album, It’s Just That Simple, which they last played 12 years ago.

Jeff Tweedy seemed more like a politician running for office, compared to his normal, recovering-addict, too-good-for-anybody rockstar self. He repeatedly talked to the crowd. One time he discovered that a young boy was there celebrating his 8th birthday and Tweedy wished him a happy birthday, and then lead the audience in singing Happy Birthday to You. Then, before the second encore, they put the spotlight on Tweedy and he read a marriage proposal from a piece of paper. He confirmed that girl said I do, and was kind enough to wish them good luck.

I’ve said it here many times, Wilco is my favorite rock band. They’ve long passed the Beatles, Pearl Jam, and the Smashing Pumpkins on my favorite list. Check them out if you’re bored with your music collection. Each one of their albums is a little different from the others. I personally vote Being There as their best album, but they’re all great.

I completely agree man. There isn’t a better rock band going right now than Wilco. Can you believe they played for two and one-half hours? I guess since they were in such a nostalgic mood, playing all that old stuff, there was one guy that I heard get really brave. Right before “Outtasight”, he yelled out “Casino Queen”. Now THAT would have been sweet.

I’m sure many people were “requesting” Casino Queen, it’s probably the best song on AM. I know I yelled out for it many times, myself.

When is Wilco coming back to Dallas? 🙂
