If the title of my post doesn’t give you an idea where this is going, let me be clear… I just saw the new M. Night Shyamalan movie, The Happening. IT SUCKED! My five year old, Noah, could come up with a better, scarier, more interesting movie. The scary parts stunk. The attempts at humor were dumb. The bad guy, the plants, are the least scary “bad guy” ever!
Oh dear how I feel ripped-off. M. Night Shyamalan, YOU OWE ME $8.75!!!
When was the last time he made a good movie? After The Sixth Sense, his movies follow the same basic formula:
1) Make the first hour and a half completely boring and confusing with some occasional creepiness thrown in so the audience doesn’t leave.
2) Tie a bow around everything with a contrived plot twist that does not nearly make up for the rest of the movie.
This pretty much sums up Unbreakable, Signs and The Village. I never saw Lady in the Water, but I heard that was teeerrrrrible.
Ryan, you nailed his pattern. However, I liked Unbreakable, a lot. And I thought Signs was good. So his first 3 movies, collectively, were good enough that I’m forced to see anything Shyamalan puts out. It’s been disappointment after disappointment. Maybe he’ll stop making movies after this pile.
Yeah, I like his movies progressively less.
